Our nutrition philosophy is that Food is Medicine for eating disorders, just as insulin is the medicine for diabetes.
There are no "good" or "bad" foods.
The correct balance of the three macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and endurance fuels/fats) needs to be consumed.
Meals and snacks need to be consumed at regular intervals throughout the day.
rEGISTERED DIETITIAN VS NUTRITIONIST
Meal plans at The Center are individualized for each client by registered, licensed dietitians (RD, LD). Why is that important? "Nutritionists" are not regulated; anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, with no formal training. A dietitian, on the other hand, is regulated. Aregistered dietitian has a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited university with specific coursework in nutrition sciences, has had hundreds of hours of clinical practice, taken and passed an examination and receives ongoing education to maintain the license. Additionally, dietitians at The Center have received training here specifically for eating disorders. Nutrition is the foundation of treatment for an eating disorder. You can be confident in the care you receive from our team of extensively trained dietitians.

Individuals seeking to receive only nutrition services at The Center will need to also be actively seeing a clinician in the community and have a primary care physician. We will require a release of information for both.
Meal plan or intuitive eating?
Intuitive eating is eating when hungry, eating what you choose and stopping eating when full. Due to misfiring of signals in the brain, individuals with eating disorders often do not get hunger and fullness cues, making intuitive eating inappropriate and/or impossible.
We use meal plans and base them on "dosage" of macro nutrients.

Our dietitians are able to work with special dietary needs, include vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, diabetic, and allergies.
Nutrition Meal Group
Nutrition meal group meets during the dinner hour to allow a meal to be eaten in a supportive environment. Facilitated by our Director of Nutrition Services Sonja Stotz, RD, LD, clients bring packed meals to meet their individual plan and receive support and education throughout the mealtime. This group is open to anyone who has seen one of our dietitians for a nutrition assessment. Nutrition Group is held every Tuesday evening from 5:30-6:30pm; cost is $20. View our Calendar >
